NFL reporter Adam Schefter announced in a tweet Sunday night that Cam Newton has reached agreement on a one-year, incentive-laden deal with the New England Patriots. Details on salary numbers have yet to come out at such an early stage.
The 31 year old former NFL MVP was released by the Panthers who drafted him with the first overall pick in 2011.
Now the Patriots quarterback room includes Cam Newton, Jarrett Stidham, and Brian Hoyer heading into the 2020 NFL season.
The news also comes on the heels of a very different announcement from the NFL. They announced Sunday night that the Patriots would be striped of a 2021 third round pick, $1.1 in club fines, and more for the their television crew filming the Bengals-Browns game in December 0f 2019, roughly a week before the Patriots were set to play the Bengals.
Another part of the punishment includes a restriction for Patriots film crews for the entire 2020 season.
