Today, May 12, the White House announced new steps that they will be doing to help ease the baby formula shortage happening in the United States.
The steps include urging states to expand the formula access for those who receive benefits from WIC (Women, Infants and Children program) , cracking down on price gouging, and increasing imports. Due to supply chain pressures and labor shortages there has been a nationwide shortage of baby formula, which has left many parents worried on how to provide for their children if they cannot breastfeed or have children who need a special formula.
One reason behind the shortage is due to a nationwide recall of products made by Abbott Nutrition back in February because there was contamination concerns at one of their key manufacturing plants. For more information about the baby formula shortage go here or visit The Hill.
