The Real Reason Jennifer Garner Hasn't Returned To The Met Gala Since 2007

Jennifer Garner has not been to the Met Gala for 18 years and has no interest in returning.

According to E!News, the 13 Going on 30 star thought the event was "a little scary" and has never been back. She briefly described her one Met Gala experience during a Beauty Secrets skincare tutorial with Vogue in 2023.

"I went to the Met Ball exactly one time. I found it a little scary, so I haven't been back." Despite being slightly frightened by the event, Garner had only great things to say about her look and her date, iconic designer Valentino Garavani

"I wore—that night—this magical red Valentino gown. And I was his date, and that was really majestic and special."

The theme at the last Met Gala the 53-year-old mother-of-three attended was Poiret: King of Fashion, which paid homage to twentieth-century designer Paul Poiret, who revolutionized women's fashion.

"Dress history credits Poiret with freeing women from corsets and with inventing such startling creations as 'hobble' skirts, 'harem' pantaloons, and 'lampshade' tunics, but these details have detracted from Poiret's more significant achievements."

Per the Metropolitan Museum of Art's exhibition of the same name, Poiret "pioneered a radical approach to dressmaking that relied on the skills of draping rather than tailoring and pattern making. Looking to antique and regional dress, Poiret advocated clothing cut along straight lines and constructed of rectangles."

While Garner will not be in attendance at the 2025 Met Gala, a slew of celebrities are expected to show up and show out for this year's theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.
