BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Boston College outlasted Wake Forest 41-34 last Thursday and, as a result of that and wins over UMass and Holy Cross, the Eagles football team landed in the Top-25 for the first time since 2008.

The Birds are ranked 23rd in the latest Associated Press poll and 25th in the coaches poll, and much of the credit's gone to head coach Steve Addazio.

He's not bouncing off the walls, though. The coach said the recognition beats the alternative, but doesn't mean much in September. In fact, Addazio almost views the news as a negative.

"I really haven't even wasted one second thinking of it," he said. "In fact, to me, it's just one more distraction. Great for your fan base, it recognizes the fact that you've made improvements, it recognizes the fact that you're moving in the right direction. But really what I want to recognize is having a chance to be 4-0 around 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon, or that doesn't mean anything."

Star running back AJ Dillon was all smiles after learning of BC's place in the national rankings. He said it's a great feeling and brings lots of attention to the program and university.

Boston College will visit Purdue Saturday at noon. Eagles haven't started 4-0 since 2007.
