More Patriot Players Choosing To Opt Out of 2020 Season

More and more members of the New England Patriots are planning to opt out of the 2020 season.

It was already announced earlier this week that newly signed fullback Danny Vitale was opting out and it has been reported that offensive tackle Marcus Cannon will soon announce that he will also sit out. Cannon had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma back in 2011 and has been in remission for the past seven years. Vitale and his wife just welcomed a newborn.

Another bombshell came Tuesday morning when 3-time SuperBowl Champion Dont'a Hightower would also sit out the season. He and his fiancée welcomed a son just two weeks ago and told NFL's Ian Rapoport, "Me and my fiancée are just more concerned with the health of our family than football — especially the new addition to our family.”

NFL's Adam Schefter tweeted Tuesday morning that Patriot running back Brandon Bolden was planning on opting out as well.

Now where does this leave the Patriots? The team has been many investments in their defense and offensive line in the past two drafts and players like Jawaan Bentley and Chase Winovich have a big chance to step up.

The team may have asked players to make their decisions about the season as soon as possible to allow for new guys to be brought in and gives the team the most time to integrate those players as well.

Patriots safety Patrick Chung also announced Tuesday that he will be opting out, making him the sixth Patriot player to do so.
